Carpet Care Tips
- Vacuum frequently and thoroughly. Oily soils attract more dirt and frequent vacuuming will reduce soil buildup. Your carpet is a giant Air filter in your house and the more dirt and dust you can remove the better.
- Get at stains quickly, Mostl stains can be removed by one cleaning agent or another if they are cleaned in the first few days. The longer a stain sits on the carpet the harder it will be to remove it.
- Blot spots out of the carpet. Do not rub or scrub hard. You can pull the carpet apart more easily than you might think.
- Use as little cleaning agents on the carpet as you can and still get the job done right. This keeps from wasting chemicals and keeps the chemicals left in the carpet to a minimum.
- Be sure to extract as much water from the carpet as possible. If you can add fans to help dry the carpet that is even better.
- Do not put add Carpet Protection to a dirty carpet. If your cleaning results were not very good do not treat the carpet with protector. This will hinder further attempts to clean the carpet.

Carpet and Dust Collecting
Your carpet is the main air filter in your house. If you have ever lived in a house with all hardwood floors or tile you probably remember how fast everything seemed to get dusty. Your carpeted house collects dust just as fast but if you are not vacuuming regularly then the dust will settle into the carpet. Frequent vacuuming will remove a lot of the dry dust from your carpet. Empty your vacuum dust cup, dust back and replace or clean the filters regularly. Lowering the dust level in your house will increase the quality of your life.

How to use a Vacuum Cleaner
Many people do not understand what the best way to operate most Vacuum cleaners.
Vacuuming Fast does not Work.
The brush on most vacuums causes agitatin and pulls back on the carpet fibers. This pulls and bounces the dirt up into the air and allows the suction of your vacuum to pull the dirt either into the dirt bag or dust cup depending on which type of machine you have.
Move the Vac slowly backwards.
This is when most of the dirt is being picked up. If you move the vacuum backwards quickly you will overcome the power of the brush and it will not pull the dirt out of the rug. If you move slowly while vacuuming you will allow the machine to pull a lot more dirt up and capture it.
Keep your Vacuum Cleaner filters Clean.
It is really important to keep the filters clean. If the filters are plugged all you will do with the vacuum is beat the dirt up. While beating up the local bully might help beating up the dirt in your carpet will drive more of it into the backing of the carpet.
What happens to the dirt the vacuum does not pick up?
The dry dirt you do not pick up will drop into the carpet. Have you ever picked up a rug that hasn’t been vacuumed much. If it has been sitting on tile or hardwood floor you will find a lot of the fine dirt has filtered all the way through and is on the hard floor. This is what happens with your wall to wall carpeting also. The loose dirt will fall down and settle into the backing of the carpet.
Dirt Bag or Dust Cup?
I like vacuums that have a clear dust cup. I like to be able to see the dirt as my machine picks it up. If your vacuum comes with a Bag that is fine and they work well but I am fonder of the dust cup.
Sticky Dirt
The damp sticky oily dirt will stick to the carpet fibers. Especially the top of the carpet fibers that you can see. This is why your carpet appears dirty. You will not get this dirt up with a vacuum. The chemical bond that forms between the dirt and the carpet fiber takes more than a little brushing and a little suction by your vacuum to break. This is where a commercial carpet cleaner can help.
Wet Sticky Dirt must be cleaned by a Carpet Cleaner
Extracting most sticky dirt is simple. Good Cleaning agents, agitation, and a good rinse. If you can increase the heat of the cleaning agents they will usually work better also. Your Professional carpet cleaner can do this best. To live in a house with nice clean carpet call your local cleaner. At least once a year you should get your carpets professionally cleaned. You should get your carpets cleaned more often if you have pets.
Vacuuming More Often will Extend your Carpet’s Life
The best way for you to extend the life of your carpet is to vacuum more often. This will keep a lot of the dirt from falling through to the carpet backing. The second most important thing is get a Pro to clean your carpet. Proper Vacuum Cleaner Technique also includes more regular use.
